If one of your creditors sued you before the statute of limitations on the debt was up (My sources show that the statute of limitations on all types of debt in NYS is 6 years.), obtained a judgment against you and got the court's permission to have your wages garnished to satisfy the judgment, then the bank is acting within the law.
