My step son is on my health insurance. My insurance has payed most of the bills. If the balances go to collection, how does that effect his credit and mine?

Step son's medical bills
by: Debtcollectionanswers

If your step son is a legal minor he cannot be held responsible for the unpaid medical bills and he has no credit history at this point. Therefore, the only person will be harmed should the medical debt end up in collection is you, assuming you were the adult who authorized the medical care he received and you were the responsible party -- the one who agree to pay any balances due.

If he is a legal adult and he authorized the medical care himself and acknowledged that he was the responsible party for any balances due, regardless of whether he is on your health insurance or not, his credit will be harmed if he does not pay his medical debt.
