Person who used to have my phone number owes a school loan
(wichita ks usa)
I have had my phone number for 10 years now. it used to belong to some people who ran an auto business. I get calls all the time for that business still. And now i'm getting bill collection calls for those people to.
I would change my number but my mother who has had a very bad stroke is able to remember this number. and besides why should I be bullied in to changing it any way.. for years I had to put up with the yellow pages listing my number as the auto business number.
Well that finally stopped then google started listing my number as those peoples auto businesses number and now this is happening. I had a message from a government debt collector on my message machine talking about a person with the last name as the auto business people.
So I call the number back and told the man I was not said person and a was tired of all the calls to my phone and told him not to call back.. Today I had two call from debt collector on my caller i.d. do I have a case, I want this to stop.. do I have to sue them to stop.. because I will. please help

We know exactly what you are talking about. My daughter (Gerri's) has been getting constant collection calls for the person who had her phone number before - and they are for school loans too!
If you've done everything you can to get them to stop your next step is to talk with a consumer law attorney. They attorney may be willing to help you for free as the debt collector will have to pay the attorney's fees if they are breaking the law. You can call 855-206-5310 (toll-free) for a free consultation. The other option is to file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
