medical bills and tax refunds

If you are concerned about your federal income tax refund then generally it can only be withheld for federal tax debts in default (such as student loans). But we wouldn't expect these bills could trigger a tax refund offset. However, it's possible they could have the ability to intercept a state or local tax refund.

Our advice if you can't pay your medical bill is that you at least talk to a bankruptcy attorney. They attorney can tell you for sure what they can and cannot do. If you want to get a a free initial evaluation with a bankruptcy attorney you can request it here.
