My house is in Nevada, and I was behind Homeower Association (HOA) fee due to divorce. I sent in a $200 to catch up the late before a collection agent (NAS) sent in certified letter to collect the late fee. The HOA late fee was less than 200 and I sent in a $200 check. I called the collection agent and left a message stating the late fee was paid. Two weeks later, a second letter with demand close to $500. In stead of calling the collection agent, I sent a letter dispute the charge and request an intemized charge. The response was the charge balloned to $686. The recent letter (dated May 10) demand the late fee to be submitted in 10 days or they will fill default.
This collection agent, NAS, is under a lawsuit for unjustly to slander and intentional misrepresentation.
The fact I own HOA fee and I started to catch up. But I should not be responsible for the extra unjust fee added on by the collection agent.
