deceased fathers estate

my father passed away owing the state irs 50,000. also he borrowed about 8 grand from some woman to pay a mortgage off. they have put liens on the house and property. the land and property are the only assets in his estate and are only valued at 40,000. I want desperately to keep the place. its not much but all i got.what can i do

My Dad passed away and now we have an IRS bill for back income taxes. Are we responsible to pay the IRS taxes. There is no money in the estate to cover the back taxes. He had no house or any other belongs to mention.

Joshua, to keep your father's home you'll need to pay off the liens that are associated with it. Given that the property is worth less than the total value of the liens, doing this would probably not be a good financial move for you financially however.
