creditor or debt collector

The federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) gives a debt collector the right to call your employer to find out how to contact you about a debt that you owe. However, the collector cannot tell your employer that it is a collection agency or why it wants to reach you. That is the only reason a debt collector can contact your employer. If the collector contacts your employer about a debt you owe for any other reason or tells the employer that it is a collection agency or that you owe money, it has violated the law and you should schedule a
free consultation with a consumer law attorney.

The FDCPA does not apply to creditors however. If creditors are contacting your employer about money that you owe to them, I recommend talking with a consumer law attorney in your area who helps people resolve their debt collection problems to find out if your state has a law that applies to creditors.
