Bank Account Garnishment

A debt collector cannot have your bank account garnished without first suing you in court and winning a judgment against you. And, when you are sued, you are supposed to receive official notification of the lawsuit from the court so that you can respond to the lawsuit and show up in court to defend yourself. However, there have been instances of consumers not being properly notified and of the debt collectors who sued them getting default judgments against them as a result. This may be what has happened to you and if that is the case, then the debt collector broke the law.

I recommend that you get in touch with a consumer law attorney in your area who helps consumers resolve debt collection problems. Find out how to get FREE or low cost legal advice about debt collection from a consumer law attorney here. You may have grounds for a lawsuit against the collector.
