Year-Old Hospital Bill

My mom recieved a hospital bill today 9-5-11. The bill says she has a balance from 5-24-10....this is over a year old. This is the FIRST time she has known anything about the bill....does she have to pay it if it is over a year old?

Year-Old Hospital Bill

Assuming your mother received the services she is being billed for, your mother must pay the bill. I don't know why it took so long for the hospital to bill her -- perhaps it was waiting to see what portion of the bill your mother's insurance would pay for -- but the bottom line is that if your mother was treated at the hospital and the bill reflects accurately the services she received, then she must pay the bill, even if it came rather late after the date/s that she was hospitalized.
