Is it legal for a debt collector to contact you at your place of business or for them to contact your employer? Also, who has the legal ability to garnish wages?

Collectors calling at work

Yes, a debt collector can call you at work, but once you tell them your employer doesn't allow those calls, they cannot contact you at work again. In addition, they are generally not allowed to discuss your debt with your coworkers or employer (or even indicate that they are collecting a debt) unless they are trying to enforce a wage garnishment order.
