Is it legal to make $1.00 a month payments on a doctor bill? They have already excepted 3 months of payments ($3.00) and they are saying that I cant do this and it will go on my record as a bad debt. what should i do?? Thank you

You are free to pay as much or as little as you want on your outstanding bill, but the doctor's office is also entitled to accept the amount you are paying each month or not, and obviously the office wants you to pay more than $1/month. Therefore, you should contact the office to try to work out a payment plan you can afford and that they think is fair or you risk being sued for the money you owe. Also, if the doctor's office reports unpaid debts to one or more of the credit bureaus, then the unpaid debt will damage your credit rating, and as long as the debt is outstanding, the doctor's office is likely to refuse to provide you with additional services.
