Transferred Debt On Credit Report

by Stacy
(Edmond, OK )

If I have a letter from the original credit stating that they have transferred my debt to an outside company, can they still report the debt on my credit report under their name?

Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com:

Yes, typically the original creditor can report the account, but the information must be accurate.

In addition, there can be one collection account listed for the debt. If there are duplicate collection accounts listed, you can dispute the older one(s).

You may want to read our page on how to dispute credit report errors.
