Settling Debt

by Leah
(Jefferson City, Mo)

We have settled all credit card judgments except one, in my husband's name. My husband and I are both on disability. The house is in my name and two cars are jointly owned. We have used most of our retirement savings to get to this point. We have been working with an attorney, but the advice now is to file bankruptcy. After all this work that sounds like bad advice. We never even considered it, preferring to pay the bills. Any advice?

Leah,

What kind of attorney have you been working with? How much is the amount of this debt? Have you tried to settle it? Do you know if you are judgment-proof?

A little more information will help me understand your options.
