sent to collection almost 3 yrs later, never rec'd a bill.

by Terry
(NY)

I don't blame the collection agency, they were fine, went to the er, needed stitches and verified my ins with the hospital. Ins pd the hospital bill. Then 2 3/4 years later my parents get a call, im in collections for the drs services. Called collection, said that I needed to call the billing. Did they said they sent statements and they were returned. Wrong address. I said how come you didn't call, didn'thave the number. Well the hospital had that inf. then (this is good) they said we cant get that information from the hospital, WHAT? when you go in the hospital, they verify your information, and correct if need be. You don't give the drs information and the hospital separate. Any Ideas???? They won't take it out of collection and never sent it to the ins, which now is untimly filing.

Sorry already submitted but put months. It was years!!!

Dr.'s bill sent to collections. Never got a bill

Thanks for submitting your debt collection question on our Q&A page.

Your situation sounds extremely frustrating! Given that you are not making any headway on your own, I suggest that you schedule an appointment with a consumer law attorney in your area who helps people resolve problems with debt collectors. A letter from the attorney may be all that it takes for you to break through the bureaucratic red tape and administrative inertia that seems to be hampering you from resolving your problem. Often, a letter on an attorney's letterhead can get action when a consumer's own efforts have failed. Having a consumer law attorney write such a letter should not cost you a lot and if the letter does not yield the desired result, the attorney can advise you about what to do next.

Please share what happens with your situation in the comments section for this question. We are very interested in hearing how this turns out for you, and your experience can help others who are struggling with debt collectors.
