Debt collection for debt already paid
by: DebtCollectionAnswers.com

Tim,

It certainly sounds like you have a valid complaint here. You shouldn't have to pay a debt twice. In addition, according to our resources, the statute of limitations for most consumer debts in Michigan is six years.

If you don't believe you owe this debt, you can send them a letter asking them not to contact you again. You can read our tips on cease and desist letters to stop a debt collector.

If it seems like the debt collector is breaking the law, talk with a consumer law attorney. Find out how to get free legal advice from an attorney here.

And finally, consider filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC.gov) which enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Hope this turns out OK for you!
