Responsibility for husband's debt

I live in California. Am I responsible for paying off Southern California Electric bill of $500. My husband had no will nor any money when he passed away.

California is a community property state, which means that each spouse is responsible for any debts the other spouse incurs during their marriage. Therefore, you are responsible for paying the utility debt that is in your husband's name.
