Neighbor, Not Debtor, Served with Summons

by Cr
(Predovich)

Is it legal for my bill collector to serve my neighbor- expecting my neighbor to give me the court summons and what should I tell the neighbor to do with the summons?

Neighbor, Not Debtor, Served With Summons

In order for you to be legally notified of the lawsuit that's been filed against you, YOU, and no one else, must be served. If I were you, I would get in touch with a consumer law attorney in your area who helps consumers resolve debt collection-related problems. Find out how to get FREE or low cost legal advice about debt collection from a consumer law attorney here. It's possible that you may have grounds for a lawsuit, but I am not an attorney so I cannot say for sure. For now, until you have spoken with an attorney, I would ask your neighbor to hold on to the Summons.

Best of luck and please share what happens with your situation in the comments section for this question. We are always interested in hearing how things turn out for the people who contact us.
