My mother is being contacted for a debt that is not hers

My mother has received letters from two different collection agencies, one in February 2013, the other in August 2013, both for the same debt.

This debit is definitely NOT hers! She is 77 years old and only got a credit card in the past few years. She always fully pays every single bill and has never had a debt in her life!
She has some serious health problems and does not need this major stress.

What should she do? Dispute the alleged debt? do nothing?

Thank you.

We definitely do not recommend she ignore it. She can follow the steps in the article above to let the collection agencies know it is not her debt. If they persist, she can talk with a consumer law attorney or the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
