Medical bill for a foreigner

by Saski
(Denton, TX, USA)

My mom is a on visiting visa, she is not a US citizen or permanent resident, but she just got a surgery done here in usa, and I signed for all the medical paper.

I am currently applying for green card and am supposed to become american resident in 3 or 4 months.

Will I or my mom be held liable for all the medical bills? My mom doesn't have any income here, so I am afraid I would be the one that is held liable for 100% of the bill.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

If you cannot pay for any of your mother's medical bills then make sure you do not sign any paperwork related to your mother's medical treatment. Make sure she understands everything she is signing and that she does not list you as a responsible party. Even then, if she lists you as her emergency contact information, you may get contacted about the unpaid bills. Your mother should try to work out payment arrangements as soon as possible to minimize any problems for you.
