lost track of all my creditors

by Armando
(Logan Utah, 84321 USA)

I lost track of all my creditors, my doughter threw away all my old mail and I have some creditors sending me to collection but I don't know who they are anymore. How can I find out who my creditors are again so I can pay all my debt?

You might start by ordering a copy of your credit reports. The reports should list most if not all of your creditors and indicate the status of each account and your outstanding account balances. The federal Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you the right to a free copy of each of your credit reports (the reports being maintained by Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) each year. Go here to order your free anunal reports, https://www.annualcreditreport.com.

Note: The reason I recommend that you order all three reports is that some creditors report consumer credit account information to only one of the credit bureaus or two and not the third. This means that to get a complete picture of all of your accounts, you should order a copy of your credit report from all three companies.

Also, if your accounts are in collections, the debt collection agencies who have the accounts should be contacting you about the debts. If they contact you for the first time by phone, they are legally obligated to follow up in writing. When they do, their written notice should indicate the creditor you owe the money to, the amount that you owe, and so on.
