Loan taken from CITIBANK in INDIA

by Kim
(Detroit)

I have taken a personal loan from CITI BANK INDIA and paid half of the loan. After that I have come to USA and working here on H1B.

Other day, I got a call from NCO Financial. They asked for SSN. I gave my SSN to them (I was not sure about NCO at that time)

They took my SSN and kept the phone. After searching on Google, I came to know about NCO Financial.

I am just assuming this might be relate to the loan taken from CITIBANK, INDIA

I have not taken any loans in USA. What will they can do with my SSN?

I am the loan defaulter in INDIA. Does it effect my credit history in USA?

Please answer my queries.

Thanks in advance,
Kim

NCO collection
by: Gerri

Kim,

NCO is one of the largest collection agencies in the world. It's not clear to me whether they were calling you from the US or India, but they likely have operations in both countries.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how/which the laws apply since this debt was incurred in another country. I also don't know what actions they can take to collect from you while you are working in the US.

The best advice I can offer is to have you consult with an attorney. Find out how to get FREE or low cost legal advice about debt collection here.

Please let us know what you find out. It may be helpful to other readers.
