Judgement filed

by Dennis
(Maryland)

We live in Maryland. My wife got cancer and we had many medical bills. The hospital turned a bill over to a collection agency who in turn filed with the district court for a judgement.
The hospital bill is solely in my wife's name.
Can I be held responsible for this debt which is $3500 and/or can they garnish my wages?

If the medical debt is 100% in your spouse's name, then the hospital cannot go after your wages. However, if you and your spouse own any joint assets, those assets could be in jeopardy given that your wife owns them as well as you do.

If you have a lot of medical debt that you cannot afford to pay, you may want to consult with a consumer bankruptcy attorney about your situation. Go here to schedule a consultation with a bankruptcy attorney in your area.
