Does a judgement on the wife affect the husband in the state of TN?

Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com

Be careful if you have any joint bank accounts. With a judgment it's possible funds from your joint account could be seized.

I can elaborate

I was in the middle of a divorce and the court ordered we were responsible for our own medical bills. Since we were already separated living apart for 2 years and she was pregnant. During her pregnancy, she had to see the Dr. and didn't pay for one of the visits. It went to a collection agency which then put it on both our credit reports. I called and according to the collection agency, they were allowed to put it on my credit report since we are married still. BS if you ask me, that's illinois for you, take money from whom ever how ever.

I took out a loan secured by a few household items. I was hurt and cannot pay right now. Can these items be siezed if my wife is part owner? north carolina?

Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com

We aren't attorneys but generally if you pledged those items as security for the loan they may be repossessed. You may want to talk with a bankruptcy attorney to find out what your options are. We're so sorry you're having such financial difficulties.
