Is it legal to hold an 18 year old responsible for a medical collection that occurred when she was 16 (We live in Florida.)

Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com: John - we are not attorneys and can't provide legal advice. Generally, however, minors aren't responsible for these bills. However, you (and/or your spouse, if applicable) probably can be. Assuming you or your wife took your daughter to the doctor or hospital, then you likely signed paperwork agreeing to be responsible. You'll probably have to figure out how to handle these debts.

As for your daughter, she can send a certified letter to the debt collector stating that she was a minor and ask them not to contact her again about the debt and unless they believe they have the right to take legal action against her. she shouldn't here from them again.
