Insults from Debt Collection Law Firm

by Tiffany
(Cordele,GA, USA)

Did the lawyer have the right to refuse my payment plan after his paralegal had accepted the terms of my payment simply because I wanted to complain about someone from his office unneccesarily insulting and belittling me? I wasn't even being rude or trying to avoid the collector.

payment plan from debt collection law firm

Thanks for submitting your debt collection question on our Q&A page.

As we mention in our ebook Debt Collection Answers, debt collection law firms are required to follow the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, just like any other debt collector.

No one in the debt collection law firm's office should be insulting you. If they did, they may be breaking the law. And if you worked out a payment arrangement with the collector, the fact that another employee refused to honor it may also be illegal.

If you think the debt collector has broken the law, I would recommend you contact a local consumer law attorney or call the Collection Complaint Hotline at 888-711-5143 for a free, confidential case evaluation.

Please let us know what the attorney says. Share it in the contact form below.
