I have received a letter from a debt collector for a loan that my parents put in my name. I was 10 years old at the time. I'm 18 years old now, and the debt is on my credit report. What can i do to have this removed?

What your parents did is illegal, but you probably know that. Unfortunately, that could put you in a bad position if you can't separate your credit from these accounts. However, because of your age when the account was opened, you may be able to get it removed with a simple dispute.

You can try simply writing to the credit reporting agencies (send your letter certified mail, return receipt requested) and disputing the account. Tell them you were 10 years old at the time it was opened and did not apply for this account. We are guessing that will do the trick. If not, come back and comment and we'll try to suggest next steps.
