How long can a creditor try to get you to repay?

by Ben

I'm wondering if there is a statute of limitations for debt collection, and if there is, how long is it in the state of Michigan?

Statute of limitations in Michigan
by: Gerri

Thanks for submitting your debt collection question on our Q&A page.

According to my sources, the statute of limitations for most types of debts in Michigan is 6 years. If you'd like to tell us a little more about your situation (use the comments link, below), perhaps we can help you understand your options for dealing with this debt.

Sprint account 2001 just now getting calls from collection.

Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com:

That sounds like it could be outside the statute of limitations. We aren't attorneys and can't give legal advice, but if you believe the debt is too old, you can send the collector a cease contact letter asking them to stop contacting you.
