Yes, a hospital is entitled to sue someone in court for unpaid medical debt. However, before the hospital files a lawsuit, it will try to collect the debt in other ways most likely -- through letters and phone calls and possibly by turning the debt over to an outside collection agency.

If the person with the hospital debt is sued and the lawsuit results in a court judgment against him or her, then that information will appear in their credit history. However, it's likely that the fact that the person owes the unpaid debt will also appear in their credit history, especially if the debt is turned over to a collection agency.
