Frozen Account Comingled SS With Wages Of Less Than 200 Per Week

by Nora
(Baltimore, MD)

Why do banks accept collectors' judgments on account with SS benefits which is exempt; and weekly wages of less than 200/week which is also exempt? This is the 2nd attempt by creditors to put a hold on my account and have been charged 150 each time plus late fees from my mortgage and other bills that were paid by check. Can I claim back all the fee and avoid the late payment. Why Banks cannot reject the request altogether? Tell me what can I do?

Nora, we strongly encourage you to go ahead and talk with a consumer law attorney to find out whether the debt collection agency may be breaking the law here. If so, you may be entitled to both damages as well as your attorney's fees.
