Florida spouses debt

by Jennifer
(Florida)

My husband lost his job and we was unable to pay the debt. The car was repossessed. The debt was incurred before we married. In Florida, can our joint bank account be garnished?

Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com:

We are sorry to hear about the financial difficulties you are going through.

Please get your money out of this joint account. It's just too risky to keep a joint account with him. Open your own separate account to keep your money safe from any legal actions the creditor or collector may try to take.

If your husband is worried about being sued for a deficiency, it makes sense for the two of you to bankruptcy attorney to find out what may be at risk here.
