Fingerhut ?, Oh Please !
(Long Beach, Ca.)
I am getting an old bill originating from Fingerhut, that was purchased by FE LOA Base in Feb of 1996, for $86.00. I am sure that was taken care of years ago.
Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com:
Ford, the statute of limitations for most consumer debts in California is four years. This debt is very old, and as you say, you don't even believe you owe it. We would suggest you read our information on using a cease and desist letter to stop a debt collector from contacting you. It should do the trick, but if it doesn't, you can contact a consumer law attorney. (The coauthor of the California edition of our ebook, Robert Brennan, can be reached at SoCalCreditDamage.com.)
This old debt should not appear on your credit reports either. You may want to check them at AnnualCreditReport.com just to be sure!
