Failed dr bill payment due to low to no income

I was working for local nursing home and had to have carpal tunnel surgery, after surgery I found out that my insurance from work did not cover it -reason being it was pre-existing condition. I do not have the income to pay the amount due and have been summonsed to court what do I do?
