Dollar limit on pursuing a claim?

Is there a dollar limit of what can be taken to court? I had a debt, I went to court, the court said what I had to pay and I paid it, in the meantime the credit company added $5.00 interest on it and is hounding me for the $5.

I don't think I owe it. Would a court accept a $5 debt?

Do you think I owe the money?
Thank you.

interest on a judgment
by: Gerri

Whether (and how much) interest can be charged on your judgment debt is a matter of state law. You can check with your state attorney general's office to try to find out whether the $5 interest they are charging is legal. However, if it were me, I would probably just pay it and get it over with. But that's your call.

If you do, make sure you get something stating that you have paid it in full, and then check your credit reports about 30 days later to show whether is states the judgment has been paid in full. You won't likely see a boost to your credit scores by paying this off, but you will be able to put it behind you.
