Do I owe this dr. bill?

My in-network surgeon requested an out-of-network surgical assistant. I knew nothing about this because I happened to be under anesthesia at the time. My insurance refuses to pay the bill because the assistant is out-of-network. Am I responsible for this bill even though I didn't hire this assistant? I think the surgeon should be responsible for it.

Ugh! What a mess. It certainly sounds reasonable that you shouldn't be responsible for this bill, but as far as your rights go, we are going to have to suggest you contact the The Access Project - they are experts on medical debt issues and will help you for free.
