Debt Collector Refused Payment Offer
by: Mary

Thanks for submitting your debt collection question on our Q&A page.

Whenever you reach an agreement with a debt collector you should protect yourself by putting all of the terms of the agreement in writing Therefore, I suggest that you write a letter to the debt collector and suggest a new debt payment plan, including the amount of each of your payments and their due dates. If the debt collector agrees to those terms, then send him another letter that states everything that the two of you have agreed to. If the debt collector asks to add additional terms to your agreement and you agree with them, those terms should be spelled out in your letter too.

Make a copy of each of your letters for your files. Also, send each of your letters via certified mail with a return receipt requested.

Please share what happens with your situation in the comments section for this question. We are very interested in hearing how this turns out for you, and your experience can help others who are struggling with debt collectors.
