I would suggest you dispute the account with the credit reporting agency. When you do, the credit reporting agency must confirm it with the source. If it is not confirmed, it must be removed.
And if it is confirmed, you should be given the contact information for the collection agency so you can try to find out what's going on. If you do not get that information, you can request it from the credit reporting agency.
