If you haven't done so already, send the debt collector a cease contact letter explaining that you paid the debt and instructing it not to contact you again. (You can read our information about using a cease and desist letter to stop a debt collector.)

Once the debt collector receives your letter, it must not contact you again. If it does, contact a consumer law attorney. You may be entitled to damages, and the debt collection agency could be required to pay your attorney's fees.

We would strongly recommend you talk with a consumer law attorney with experience in debt collection cases. Find out how to get a FREE consultation with a consumer law attorney here.
