Debt collection company keeps submitting 9.80 check to bank

by Christy
(South Carolina)

I wrote a check for $9.80 two months ago. I'm on dissability and made a misscalculation. This check has already cost me over $150.00. Is this legal? Is there anything I can do. I can't afford to pay the check untill they stop submitting it and I can catch up from all they are costing me. I've never had an issue like this before and don't know where to turn.

I am really not sure what to tell you and I don't know if there is a law in your state that prohibits the collection agency from doing what it's doing, especially once you have made it aware of your situation. My concern is that if the amount you owe keeps building, you may be sued for the money.

My best advice is to schedule a FREE consultation with a consumer law attorney. The attorney should be able to provide you with specific advice about your rights and the best way to resolve your situation. Good luck!

9.80 check

I had the same thing happen to me. My lawyer told me to close all of my accounts with the bank. And not to open a account with a bank that has interest in. So if you open a account with a other bank check the bank out to see if your old bank owns it.
