Creditors calling my house regarding my daughter's bills

by Mary
(chester county, PA)

There's this debt collection company that calls my house from 8 A.M to 9 P.M. asking for my daughter. They refuse to tell me who they are, they just say this is the alternative number she gave (which she didn't and my number is private)and it's in regards to an obligation she's not keeping up with. She is 33 years old and hasn't lived with me since she was 18. I don't see her that often and I don't know what is going on with her. How can i get these phone calls to stop? I'm on the do not call list, if that means anything. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Collection calls for your daughter

There are restrictions that apply to debt collectors who hold third parties. Assuming you are not a cosigner on this debt, the collector can only call you to try to locate your daughter. Once the collector has found your daughter, calls to use should cease. However, even then, the debt collector shouldn't be calling you repeatedly unless it believes it has new information that would help them locate your daughter.

We would recommend that you read our page about
Debt Collection For the Wrong Person which should walk you through the steps you can take to stop these phone calls. If you are in touch with your daughter, encourage her to contact the debt collector. If she tries to ignore them, they may get a judgment against her and that could create additional problems for her. You may want to also encourage her to read the first chapter of Debt Collection Answers online for free so she has an understanding of what our rights are when dealing with the debt collector.
