Continued Collection Attempts After Agreement Is Made

by Margaret
(New Brunswick, Canada)

I recently paid an outstanding bill which included both principal and interest up to a certain date. I had indicated in my communication with the company that once they had negotiated the cheque, I would consider this matter closed. If they did not agree to these terms, they could return the cheque and pursue alternate measures. The company did cash the cheque but their "collection" agent continues to harass me for a small balance. This small balance is pure interest.

Can they still keep bothering me?

What remedies do I have?

Thanks,
Margaret
Canada

Collection attempts after agreement with collector

Thanks for submitting your debt collection question on our Q&A page. .

Gerri and I are not familiar with the debt collection laws of Canada or of any country other than the United States. Therefore, we cannot answer your question. We suggest that you contact a consumer law attorney in your area who handles debt collection issues.

Sorry we cannot be of more help. Good luck resolving your problem.
