I am not clear from your question exactly what the nature of the debt is that you are writing about. Is it credit card debt? The statute of limitations on that kind of debt in your state is 6 years. However, what that means is that the creditor cannot sue you for the money that you owe after the 6 years are up, but it can continue trying to collect from you indefinitely.
