Civil Action Hearing Notice

by Tatiana
(PA)

What steps should I take now? How to find out if this collector has any rights to my old credit card debt? Or for how much they bought it? I checked my credit report and there is no collections on me. I don't have any income, my kids and I live on my husbands paycheck. In this case what can and can not do?

I am not sure I fully understand your question, but it sounds like a creditor or collector is taking you to court and you want to know how to respond. How much they paid for the debt or whether it is not on your credit report are not really the issues you should be concerned with. More importantly, you'll want to know whether the debt is valid, (is it too old, is the amount valid, is there proper documentation, etc.), and if it is valid, what will happen if you can't pay it.

I would recommend you read our pages about what to do if you are being sued by a debt collector first. Then if you have specific questions you can ask them using the comments link below. Please keep in mind, however, that we are not attorneys and we can't provide legal advice.
