Checking Account And Student Loan Refund

I received my proceeds of guaranteed student loans and my checking account has been garnished. Are they allowed to take that money? I thought that that was exempt.

You haven't given us enough information to try to answer your question. Who are "they?" Do they have a judgment against you? Do you keep other money besides your student loan proceeds in this account?
