Can they take past due taxes from our joint account?

by Sarah
(Lexington, KY)

If a relative, not spouse, gets their Paycheck direct deposited into my checking account if they owe back taxes and have not made payment arrangements if their assets are taken will this personally effect the amount in my bank account or will it only effect their checks that were deposited into my account?

Basically will they take or freeze any of my money in my checking account or will they just take his paychecks out?

Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com:

Sarah - yes, your money is at risk if you keep it in a joint account with someone who owes past due taxes. It's a joint account - that means you both own the entire account.

Get and keep your own account asap.
