If you are sued and the lawsuit results in a judgment against you, your SSI payments are exempt -- safe. However, if that money is In a bank account with funds from other sources, the judgment creditor (the business or individual with the judgment against you) could get permission to seize the funds in that account and take your SSI income in addition to funds from other sources. If that were to happen, you would have to initiate a court process to get your SSI money back. Therefore, it's best to keep that income in a separate bank account .
