Can i be responsible for my 24 year old daughters medical bill

by Brenda
(Texas)

My daughter was 24 when she went to a doctor in a diffent city. She was technically on my medical insurance but was self supporting. I didn't sign anything guarantee payment on her behalf, i didn't live in the city where she sought treatment. Can i be held responisble for her bills because she was on my employer's group policy? We both live in TX.

Brenda:

Given that your daughter was a legal adult when she received the medical care and that you signed nothing guaranteeing payment, you cannot be held legally responsible for her medical bills. It does not matter that she was on your insurance policy at the time that she incurred the debt. The debt is her's and her's only.
