Can Creditors Take My Lease Car?

by michael
(toms river nj usa)

I have cc debt and have trouble paying them. Can they take a leased car from me?

Reply from DebtCollectionAnswers.com:

Michael,

Your car is leased, so you don't own it - the company that financed it does. And generally credit card companies can't go after property you own until they sue you and get a judgment. It doesn't sound like you're at that point, but if it looks like you will be sued, it would be a good idea to at least bankruptcy attorney to find out what your creditors can and cannot do to collect from you.
