Settling unpaid rent with collection agency
by: Mary

You can certainly try to settle your debt with the collection agency. However the agency is not legally obligated to accept your settle offer.

A couple words of advice if you decide to try to settle: 1. You will have a better chance of reaching a settlement agreement if you offer to pay the amount you want to settle for in one lump sum rather than asking to pay the amount over time in installments.
2. Be sure that you have looked at your budget and that the amount that you offer is realistic, i.e., you know you can afford to pay it. 3. If you reach a settlement agreement with the debt collection agency, do not pay the agency any money until it has provided you with something in writing that outlines all of the terms that you agreed to. Read the agreement carefully to make sure that you understand everything.

Good luck resolving your debt!
