..Dad 2 yrs ago and Mom 5 yrs ago.-harassing collection calls for their debt.

A third part collection agency 'TOTAL CREDIT RECOVERY LTD.' has been incessantly calling me to collect a debt my parents owed to CIBC years ago in the amount of approximately 6,000.00. There is no estate money...I had no responsibility or signature of my own attached to their debt. Repeatedly I tell them to stop calling me as this is not my problem ...have given them the information to prove my parents are dead and they will not stop harassing me.

Do I have the position to sue this company? This is never going to end....my cell phone is called daily about this matter.

Zoe,

My sincerest condolences for your losses.

If you lived in the US, what the debt collectors are doing would be completely illegal and you could most certainly sue. I don't know anything about Canadian debt collection laws, however. My best advice would be for you to contact a consumer law attorney in your area to find out.

Please do let us know what you find out. We get questions from Canadians from time to time and it would be helpful to be able to point them in the right direction.
