If a bill that had been sent to a collection agent has subsequently been paid to the original creditor is there anything owed to or any need to deal with the debt collector?

We would recommend you send the debt collector a certified letter stating that the debt has been paid, and including proof of payment if you have it. If the debt collector contacts you later, you are welcome to come back here and share your question using the comments link.
